Tip 1: Keep in mind that when you buy a house, you’re also buying your home. Ask yourself these very basic questions.
- What is the distance to public transportation, highways, etc.
- What public and local schools are in the area?
- Am I buying as an investment vs. long-term goal.
Tip 2: Calculate your payments and include future incidentals like these:
- Loss of employment.
- Increase in personal expenses.
- Unexpected financial upheaval.
Tip 3: I recommend that all buyers take time to to make a list of basic wants and needs. For example, for some people having a Jacuzzi is a real need (perhaps for medical reasons). For other people a Jacuzzi would be nice to have but not a real need, so it would be a want.
